VENUS Study
Join the VENUS Study: Advancing Vaginal Microbiome Research
Only 4% of all healthcare research and development is dedicated to women’s health—leaving critical gaps in our understanding of the vaginal microbiome and its impact on health, disease, and treatment outcomes. While gut microbiome research has revolutionized probiotic therapies and precision medicine, the vaginal microbiome remains largely understudied, despite its fundamental role in infection prevention, immune function, and overall well-being.
The VENUS Study is changing that.
About the VENUS Study
The Vaginal Ecosystem and Network Understanding Study (VENUS) is one of the most comprehensive vaginal microbiome studies to date. This IRB-approved observational study involves up to 3,250 cis-gender women across the United States, ranging in age from 18 to 89. The VENUS study includes both healthy individuals and those diagnosed with one or more of 12 common gynecological conditions, including:
- Bacterial vaginosis (BV)
- Candidiasis (Yeast infections)
- Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause
- Chronic vaginal and vulvar disorders
Our primary objective is to analyze the vaginal microbiome at the time of clinical diagnosis, using both whole-genome sequencing (WGS) and a proprietary qPCR-based vaginal microbiota panel. By correlating microbial compositions, abundances, antibiotic resistance profiles, and clinical outcomes, we aim to revolutionize how vaginal health conditions are diagnosed and managed—shifting from a symptom-based approach to a precision microbiome-guided model of care.
Why Join the VENUS Study as a Clinical Site?
By partnering with Vaginal Biome Science, clinicians and researchers play a vital role in shaping the future of women’s health. As a study site, you will:
